Evaluated need refers to mental health professionals’ judgement about a person’s mental health (Andersen et al., 2014). The help-seeking literature has typically operationalized evaluated need as mental illness severity, frequency, duration, symptomatology, comorbidity, and/or diagnostic category (Magaard et al., 2017).
For more details about this help-seeking determinant, please read Hammer and colleagues (2024), from which a portion of the information about this construct is excerpted.
A description of available evaluated need measures can be found on the Structural Forces Measures page.
